RICHMOND, Va. - James Madison dropped just its second match of the season on Friday afternoon, falling to No. 4 Ohio State in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) decision in non-conference volleyball at the Seigel Center.

The Dukes (6-2) battled throughout, but OSU hit .330 on the day and had four players tally at least eight kills to seal the win.

Sophia Davis and sophomore
Miëtte Veldman led the offense with eight digs each, while Davis added six blocks and Veldman tallied six digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Dukes battled back-and-forth early, taking the lead at 8-7 and later cutting OSU's advantage to 15-14, but the Buckeyes responded with an 8-1 run that pushed the lead to 23-15 and closed things out at 25-17.

Second Set
The second frame was one of runs, with the Dukes using a 4-1 stretch to go up by 11-10 before OSU immediately responded with a 5-1 run of its own. JMU stayed within range the rest of the way, cutting things to 23-22 with three straight points, but the Buckeyes made it a 2-0 match with back-to-back points after a time out.

Third Set
OSU got out to a fast start in the decisive set, taking a 10-4 lead before JMU was able to put together a 4-1 run that made it 11-8. The Buckeyes kept things safe, however, closing out the match at 25-14.

UP NEXT
The Dukes will return to action next weekend, tipping off their Colonial Athletic Association schedule with a trip to Newark, Del. to face Delaware at 1 p.m. on both Sept. 18 and 19. The Blue Hens have a 5-2 record in non-conference play thus far, with matches against Kent State and Wichita State still to come this weekend.
