RICHMOND, Va. – After leading the way for JMU to post back-to-back shutouts in the week, James Madison defender
Tyler Clegg has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday morning.
The Dukes extended their win streak to four with a 2-0 win over George Mason and then an exciting 1-0 overtime win to start off CAA play against the College of Charleston. Three of their five matches have now been shutouts.
Against George Mason, the Patriots did not take a single corner kick or shot for the entire first half. Clegg also provided some offensive output, firing a shot on goal during the contest.
The Preseason All-CAA selection then played a key part against Charleston in holding the Cougars to taking only four shots, with only one before halftime. The Cougars were only awarded two corner kicks throughout the match, as Clegg helped anchor the back line. It was the least number of shots given up by the Dukes since the second match of the condensed spring season.
JMU now travels to NC State to take on the Wolfpack tomorrow, Sept. 14 for a 7 p.m. scheduled start. The match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
