RICHMOND, Va. - The James Madison men's golf team opened its 2021-22 campaign this week, carding three rounds under par as the Dukes tied for seventh at the 2021 VCU Shootout, hosted at the par-72, 6,927-yard Tuckahoe Creek course at the Country Club of Virginia.

The Dukes posted a final-round 286 (-2) on Tuesday after rounds of 286 (-2) and 282 (-6) in Monday's first and second rounds. The performance tied them with Georgetown in seventh on a tight, 12-team leaderboard, just four shots outside of the top three.

Senior
Ignacio Montero led the way for the Dukes, carding consistent performances through the week on his way to a tie for seventh among 72 players. Montero opened with rounds of 70-71 on Monday before jumping nine spots on the board with a final-round 69 (-3) on Tuesday morning.

Junior
Nick Schlickenrieder played well in his return to action, shooting 215 (-1) with scores of 71-71-73 as he joined freshman
Daniel Cheng in 25th as the freshman carded 71-69-75 in his first collegiate action.

Seniors
Ignacio De Pineda (74-72-72) and
George Heath (77-71-72) closed out the JMU scoring in ties for 39th and 45th, respectively, with scores of 218 (+2) and 220 (+4).

Playing as an individual, sophomore Sigurður Blumenstein climbed into a tie for 23rd, shooting 214 (-2, 70-74-70) in his first collegiate tournament rounds.

UP NEXT
The Dukes will be on the road again in one week, heading to Briar's Creek Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C. to take part in the Battle at Briar's Creek on Sept. 20-21.
