HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison dropped the first of two weekend matches on Saturday, falling 3-1 (25-27, 26-24, 16-25, 21-25) to the College of Charleston at Sinclair Gymasium.
JMU dropped to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in league play, while Charleston improved to 8-6 on the season and 1-2 in the CAA.

Savannah Marshall and freshman
Jaydyn Clemmer led James Madison with 15 digs on the afternoon, as four players had at least 12. Sophomore
Miëtte Veldman's 12 kills led the Dukes, while junior
Chloe Wilmoth and redshirt senior
Elizabeth Helmich each added 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Charleston jumped out to an early 7-3 lead with a 5-0 run, but James Madison would battle back to take a 15-13 lead. With the Dukes up 19-17, the Cougars grabbed six of the next seven point to go up 23-20. JMU bounced back, eventually taking a 25-24 lead on back-to-back blocks, but Charleston took the last three points of the set, winning 27-25.
Second Set
James Madison went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-7 lead. Charleston came back and took the lead at 22-21, eventually reaching set point at 24-23. A Wilmoth kill would cancel the set point and back-to-back Charleston attack errors would give the Dukes a 26-24 win which evened the match at one set apiece.
Third Set
Down 11-10 after a back-and-forth start, the Cougars rattled off 12 of 13 points and grabbed at 22-12 lead. Charleston would clinch shortly after, winning 25-16 and taking a 2-1 match advantage.
Fourth Set
Neither side led by more than two points before Charleston went on a 6-0 run to take a 19-13 lead, eventually extending the lead to 23-16. The Dukes won five of the next six points and fended off set point twice, but the Cougars took the match with a 25-21 win.

The Dukes will face a rematch with Charleston on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. in Sinclair Gymnasium.
