HARRISONBURG, Va. – Old Dominion capitalized on a penalty stroke late in the fourth quarter, and James Madison had a pair of shots saved in the closing seconds to fall 3-2 on Friday evening at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.

The #18 Monarchs improved to 2-1 on the year, while the #24 Dukes fell to 2-1.

Eveline Zwager scored both goals for JMU, as she doubled her season total to four scores through three starts.

ODU led 2-1 before a turnover early in the fourth gave JMU a great opportunity in the offensive end. Zwager beat multiple defenders on the baseline and went to pass it inside before deflecting the ball in off an ODU stick.

The Monarchs regained the lead with 2:54 left on a penalty stroke by Delphine Le Jeune. With seconds remaining, JMU used a pair of long passes to set up one last opportunity, but shots by
Emily Harrison and Zwager were stopped by Cam MacGillivray to preserve the ODU win.

ODU out-shot JMU 11-8, with the visitors holding a slim 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Monarchs also held a 6-2 lead in penalty corners, as they scored on one of those attempts.

Florien Marcussen made a season-high six saves, making three stops in each half. MacGillivray produced five saves, which included her final two in the last four seconds of regulation.
