BUIES CREEK, N.C. - James Madison opened its first road weekend of the season in strong fashion on Friday, picking up back-to-back 3-0 wins over Alabama State and Campbell in non-conference volleyball action.

The Dukes (4-1) grabbed the victories with balanced attacking and clean defense, holding ASU to a negative attacking percentage and Campbell to just .115 in the nightcap.

Sophomore
Miëtte Veldman led the way on the attacking side, tallying 26 kills across the six sets and hitting .309 in her first action of the season. Junior
Chloe Wilmoth tallied 10 kills against Campbell, while the Dukes spread 30 kills across seven attackers in the opener.

MATCH ONE
The Dukes opened their first match of the day by jumping out to a 14-5 lead and not looking back, using a late 9-0 run to close out the opening set at 25-11. The second set was more back-and-forth, with ASU cutting the lead as close as 17-16 before the Dukes used a 5-0 run to put the frame out of reach.

JMU cruised in the clincher, winning the first 13 points of the third set and closing on runs of 10-2 and 6-0 to seal their first sweep of the season. Fourteen players saw the court for the Dukes in the win as JMU held ASU to a -.043 attack percentage for the match.

MATCH TWO
Campbell, the weekend host in Buies Creek, battled back-and-forth with the Dukes in the opening set of JMU's second match of the day, as the two teams racked up 14 ties and five lead changes. Neither team ever led by more than three as the schools tied at every point from 19 until the Dukes closed things out at 27-25.

JMU staked itself early leads in each of the second and third sets, going up 7-2 in the second and 6-1 in the third and not relinquishing the lead in either as the Dukes moved to 4-1. Veldman's 17 kills paced the offense, while senior
Savannah Marshall added 12 digs.
