STANFORD, Calif. -- Down 2-0 late in the third quarter, James Madison fought its way back but ultimately fell to Stanford in overtime, 3-2, at the Varsity Field Hockey Turf Thursday afternoon.
JMU now sits at 8-6 with three games left in the season. The Cardinal improve to 6-7 (3-3 American East) and will trek to Richmond on Oct. 23.

Eveline Zwager led the charge for the Dukes with one goal and one assist. Classmate
Diede Remijnse also found the back of the net while graduate student

How It Happened
- The Dukes' defense was solid in the opening frame, holding Stanford without a shot.
- Stanford's offense broke through less than three minutes into the second quarter as a Cardinal attacker took advantage of a bouncing ball in front of the crease.
- Minutes later, Stanford struck on a corner, taking a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
- In the final minute of the third period, JMU got on the board via a penalty corner goal from Remijnse with assists from Zwager and McClure.
- Sophomore Cassidy Strittmatter connected with Zwager who streaked towards the goal, getting off a hard shot to the bottom left corner to make it 2-2 at the 9:50 mark of the fourth quarter.
- In overtime, Stanford's Lynn Vanderstichele intercepted a pass at midfield and found teammate Cara Cambeth for the gamewinner 43 seconds into the period.
