NEW ORLEANS, La. - After picking up her second career individual victory at the Charlotte Invitational this past week, junior
Kendall Turner of the James Madison women's golf team has been named the Sun Belt Women's Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Friday.
Â
Turner used 10 birdies across her three rounds to card 75-71-72 (+2) to tie for first place atop the 73-player leaderboard, capturing her first medalist honors since taking home the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Championship.
Â
The victory makes her just the ninth player in JMU Women's Golf history to card at least two individual wins with the Dukes and the first in 10 years to earn her second win. It also marks JMU's first individual win sinceÂ
Amelia Williams' title at the 2022 River Landing Classic this past March.
Â
The award is the Dukes' first since joining the Sun Belt and first since Williams earned the plaudits for her victory on March 9. It is Turner's third career conference weekly honor.
Â
JMU has concluded the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule and will not be back in action until it travels to the Oyster Shuck Match Play at Charleston Municipal Golf Course on Feb. 13-14. The Dukes last played in the Oyster Shuck Match Play during the 2018-19 season, taking home the title with a perfect 3-0 record.
