HARRISONBURG, Va. – Blocks set James Madison volleyball apart in their 3-1 win (18-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-20) over South Alabama on Friday evening at Godwin Hall.

The Dukes improved to 20-4 (14-1 SBC) while the Jaguars fell to 16-11 (10-5 SBC).

Cameryn Jones led the Dukes with a career high 10 blocks, followed by
Sophie Davis with seven. On offense,
Miëtte Veldman tallied 14 kills, right ahead of Bre Reid who recorded 13. The Dukes out hit the Jaguars .275-.147.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
South Alabama started off the match hot, building a strong 6-2 lead. It maintained its lead for the rest of the set with the Dukes only making it withing two points in the middle of the set.

Second Set
The Dukes broke out with a 6-0 run, but were quickly evened out by a 8-0 run from the Jaguars. Attack errors from South Alabama gave back the lead to JMU who came back with a 10-1 run to take the set.

Third Set
The set started off evenly, but the Dukes were able to pull ahead with a 16-10 lead. The Jaguars were unable to get within five points of the home team for the rest of the set, eventually falling 25-15.

Fourth Set
JMU broke out early and maintained their lead until South Alabama tied it up at 12-12. A set of 5-0 and 4-0 runs put the Dukes out on top and the Jaguars could not put together a run to catch back up, giving the Dukes the win.
