QUICK HITS
- James Madison men's basketball looks to continue its hot start with a road matchup at Howard in Washington, D.C. Tuesday evening.
- The Dukes continued their hot start with a 97-62 thrashing of Buffalo on Saturday, becoming the first team in program history to score 90 points in its first three games. JMU's offensive burst was bouyed by a 32-of-41 (.780) mark at the foul line.
- JMU will also look to notch back-to-back 4-0 starts after doing so last season with wins over Carlow (NAIA), Old Dominion, Eastern Kentucky and George Mason. The final three wins in that stretch were by five, one and three points respectively.
- The Dukes forced 30 Buffalo turnovers on Saturday, marking the first time since Nov. 25, 2020 (Limestone) that a JMU opponent has committed 30 or more miscues in a game. The 30 turnovers forced moved JMU up to 13th in the country in that category at 23.3.
- Redshirt senior Vado Morse scored 22 points in the win including a 7-of-9 performance at the free throw line. It was the third time in Morse's JMU career that he had made seven or more from the stripe.
- Graduate student Alonzo Sule scored 14 points while adding seven rebounds on Saturday, including a career-high 10 free throws in only 10 attempts.
- JMU is averaging 108.7 points per game through the season's first week, the fourth-highest scoring clip in the country. Three of the top six scoring offenses in the country are Sun Belt teams, with App State ranking third (110.5) and Coastal Carolina at sixth (103.5). JMU also ranks fourth in scoring margin at 56 and are one of 10 Division I teams averaging 100 points or more on offense thus far.
- The Dukes' scoring output come from game-by-game shooting percentages of 61.3%, 60.6% and 51.8%. This is the second time under Mark Byington that JMU has shot at least 50% three consecutive times, doing so between December and January last season.
- Seven different players on JMU's roster average at least nine points per game, including transfers Mezie Offurum (9.3) and Noah Freidel (9.0). Morse and Takal Molson each lead the way with a 15.3 points per game.
- JMU's defense has held opponents to a 0.37 assist-to-turnover ratio, which would collectively rank as the sixth-lowest among Division I teams.
