HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison owned a 34-30 lead at halftime, but the #13 Tar Heels were able to put 46 points on the board in the second half for a 76-65 win Sunday afternoon inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
JMU (3-2) connected on a season-best 10 three-pointers in the loss while North Carolina (4-0) sunk 22-of-29 (75.9%) from the line.

Kiki Jefferson recorded a stat line of 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Junior
Peyton McDaniel was strong from deep, going 5-of-10 (50.0%) for 17 points. Classmate
Jamia Hazell also reached double figures with 11 points and dished out three assists. Junior
Kseniia Kozlova pulled down 10 rebounds, while classmate
Claire Neff led the Dukes in blocks with two.
How It Happened
- JMU came out swinging in the first quarter as Jefferson and McDaniel combined for 17 points to make it 19-19 at the end of the period.
- Jefferson and McDaniel started hot from deep as well, making two and three triples in the opening quarter, respectively.
- The Dukes' defense locked in the following quarter, holding the #13 Tar Heels to just 11 points. Additionally, junior Amira Williams hit a long-range shot at the buzzer to give JMU a 34-30 lead heading into the locker room.
- UNC saw its shots begin to fall, recording 20 points in the third quarter to take a 50-47 edge heading into the final period.
- North Carolina went on a 12-3 run to open up the fourth quarter. James Madison brought to within five multiple times but could not complete the comeback.

- The Tar Heels allowed just eight fast break points through three games before its matchup with James Madison. JMU finished with 11, 10 of which were off turnovers.
- UNC came into the game as No. 4 in the country in rebounds per game at 52.33. The Dukes out-rebounded the #13 Tar Heels 44-42 and have won the rebounding battle in every game thus far.
- Jefferson dropped a season-high 30 points, the fourth time in her career scoring 30 or more. The last time the guard reached the 30-point plateau was last season at William & Mary (Feb. 6) in which she finished with 32.
- McDaniel scored eight of her season-high 17 points in the opening quarter. Additionally, the junior has knocked down five or more triples in a game three times in her career.
- The Dukes finished 10-of-29 (.345) from beyond-the-arc, the first time the team has hit 10-plus three-pointers since making 10 versus Hampton last year on Nov. 21.
- Kozlova's 11 rebounds were a career-high and the first time the center has reached double-digits in the category.
