JMU Hosts #23 Coastal Carolina for Senior Day in Saturday's Season Finale

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison closes the 2022 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 26 when it hosts Coastal Carolina in a pivotal Sun Belt Conference East Division matchup.

Kickoff from Bridgeforth Stadium is set for noon and will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
Pregame radio coverage on the Morris Insurance & Financial JMU Radio Network will begin at 11 a.m.

SUPER SENIOR CLASS

Saturday marks the final game of the careers of JMU's 15 seniors, who will be recognized prior to kickoff.
Seven of 15 have spent their entire careers with the Dukes: Percy Agyei-Obese, Kyle Davis, Mateo Jackson, Sam Kidd, Drew Painter, Devin Ravenel and Isaac Ukwu.
Those who transferred and are playing their finals game are Tate Beaver, Todd Centeio, Sam Clark, Jamare Edwards, Terrance Greene Jr., Jordan Swann, Kris Thornton and Noah Turner.
JMU's fifth-year seniors hold a career record of 49-12 with the program, while the sixth-year seniors are 63-13.
JMU has won four conference championships since 2017 and reached the FCS national championship twice while also making it to the semifinals two other times.

DUKES VS. CHANTICLEERS

This Saturday marks the third meeting all-time between the teams, with the series tied at 1-1.
Coastal won the inaugural meeting, 31-27, back on Sept. 10, 2005 in Conway.
In that game, JMU led 27-17 with under 10 minutes to play, but the Chanticleers put together two big touchdown drives, with the game-winning score coming with 30 seconds to play.
Two years later, the Dukes rolled to a 45-10 triumph at home on Sept. 22, 2007.
Rodney Landers tallied 292 total yards, including 129 rushing to lead the Dukes to the five-touchdown win. Landers scored twice, while Jamal Sullivan and Scott Noble both added two rushing scores.
Both previous meetings occurred while both JMU and Coastal were in the Football Championship Subdivision.

FIRST PLACE ON THE LINE

While Coastal Carolina has secured its trip to the Sun Belt Conference championship game, the Dukes are still playing for a share of first place in the East Division on Saturday.
Coastal is 6-1 in conference play, while the Dukes are 5-2 entering the final Saturday of the season.
JMU is ineligible for postseason play due to its transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision, though should this game scenario occur in future seasons, the winner of this matchup would win the East and advance to the SBC title game based on a head-to-head tiebreaker.
JMU was picked sixth in the East Division in the preseason poll, while Coastal was second.
In the West Division, Troy and South Alabama both sit at 6-1. Both teams play last-place teams this Saturday, Troy heads to Arkansas State, while South Alabama hosts Old Dominion. Troy wins the West with a win or USA loss, while South Alabama would need a win plus a Troy loss.
The Sun Belt title game will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3:30 p.m. and is televised on ESPN.

DUKES STORM BACK VS. GSU

JMU put together a furious second-half rally, overcoming a 20-point halftime deficit to defeat Georgia State 42-40 last week at home.
GSU took advantage of three first-half takeaways and built a 27-7 lead and later 34-14 at the break.
JMU dominated the third quarter, scoring three touchdowns and holding the Panthers to just five yards to gain a 35-34 lead.
After JMU went up 42-34, Georgia State scored with 2:30 remaining but JMU stopped GSU on the two-point try.
An onside recovery and first down later, the Dukes ran out the clock.
In addition to Centeio's day through the air, Kris Thornton produced a pair of receiving touchdowns, while Percy Agyei-Obese had two on the ground.
Isaac Ukwu and Jamree Kromah each had 1.5 sacks, while Devyn Coles had a sack, forced fumble and recovery.
JMU outgained GSU by a 425-257 margin, including 271-62 in the second half.

FBS WINS IN PERSPECTIVE

James Madison accomplished a win total in its first season competing at the FBS level that it did over its first 50 seasons as a program.
Prior to this season, JMU had notched six wins against FBS opponents.
They previously defeated Virginia (1982), Navy twice (1989 & 1990), Virginia Tech (2010), SMU (2015) and ECU (2017).
The 2022 season has produced home FBS wins against Middle Tennessee, Texas State and Georgia State, along with road victories at App State, Arkansas State and Old Dominion.

NATIONAL AUDIENCE THIS WEEK

JMU is appearing on national television for the third time in its inaugural FBS season this week.
It is JMU's second time on ESPNU, joining its Nov. 5 game at Louisville.
It's also the first FBS home game that will be seen in front of a national audience.
The Dukes' win at Arkansas State on Oct. 8 was televised on NFL Network.
This is JMU's first regular-season national TV game at Bridgeforth Stadium since Oct. 12, 2013 when the Dukes hosted Richmond on NBC Sports Network.

TWO DECADES AT .500 OR BETTER

JMU has produced a plethora of wins on the gridiron year in and year out.
JMU's victory at Old Dominion on Nov. 12 secured a winning season for the Dukes, marking their ninth straight season doing so (2014-22).
It also secured a .500 or better record for an incredible 20 straight seasons.
Only four teams at the Division I level (FCS or FBS) have gone .500 or better every year over the past 20 seasons - JMU, Boise State, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.
Since 2003, JMU has produced 18 winning seasons with a pair of 6-6 records.
Dating back to year one of the program in 1972, JMU has a winning record in 33 of 51 seasons.
