THE DUKES
- James Madison women's basketball returns to the Atlantic Union Bank Center for the first time in 11 days to host Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday, Dec. 4. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
- The Dukes are coming off a gritty 62-60 road win over VCU where they erased an early 11-point deficit on Dec. 1. Senior Kiki Jefferson sunk the game-winning free throws with 21 seconds left, and finished with a game-high 17 points and tied her career-high in assists with six.
- The contest against the Rams marked the first time in 2022-23 that JMU trailed at halftime (33-26) and lost the rebound battle (44-35).
- Jefferson has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week twice in the season's first three weeks of competition. The guard is averaging 22.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest, which both lead the Dukes. Junior Peyton McDaniel is second on the team in points per game at 9.0 and has knocked down 14-of-32 (43.8%) three-pointers.
- James Madison currently ranks in the top 25 nationally in three categories: rebound margin (+13.3 - 10th), opponent field goal percentage (33.5% - 19th), and free throws made per game (16.29 - 21st).
- Additionally, Jefferson boasts top-10 marks in three categories: free throws made (47 - 4th), free throw attempts (59 - 7th), and points per game (22.6).
- James Madison received 50 votes in CollegeInsider.com's Women's Mid Major Top 25 poll, the most votes among those not ranked.
- A win on Sunday would be James Madison's first 6-2 start since the 2019-20 campaign. That season, the Dukes shared the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title. The CAA Tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
SCOUTING THE SHORE
- The Hawks are 3-6 and have won its past two contests. Maryland Eastern Shore recently bested Navy, 72-66, highlighted by a 14-4 run to close the game on Dec. 1.
- Junior Zamara Haynes (12.1 ppg) and senior Mya Thomas (10.4 ppg) lead the team in scoring. Haynes was named Preseason Second Team All-MEAC.
SERIES HISTORY
- James Madison holds the advantage in the all-time series with a 3-0 record.
- The last time these teams met, the Dukes came away with a 61-53 home victory on Nov. 17, 2011. The win was No. 200 for former Head Coach Kenny Brooks.
