QUICK HITS
- James Madison will return to the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Thursday, battling Elon in a 7 p.m. matchup in Harrisonburg.
- The Dukes wrapped up a three-game road trip on Monday, falling at Drexel 72-66. JMU clamped down on defense early, holding the Dragons to a season-low 16 points in the first half, which included a 9:30 scoring drought. However, Drexel was able to erase the 12-point halftime deficit with hot shooting throughout the second half, holding off a late JMU rally to claim victory.
- Redshirt junior Vado Morse leads JMU on offense with 15.9 points per game this season, which ranks second in the league. Morse is averaging 21.2 points per game in league play, and has eclipsed 17 points in 10 of 11 conference tilts. He has also made at least three triples in every conference game but one this season.
- James Madison ranks 34th in the nation and first in the league with a 47.4% field goal percentage so far this season. Among players with at least 50 field goal attempts, a pair of active Dukes - redshirt freshman Justin Amadi (.634) and graduate transfer Alonzo Sule (.592) are shooting at least 55% from the field. Amadi, who set the JMU record for field goal percentage last season, would rank sixth all-time with his current percentage.
- After missing a lengthy stretch due to injury, redshirt freshman Tyree Ihenacho returned to action during the Dukes' road trip, filling up the stat sheet by averaging 4.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 steals across the three games.
- JMU has outrebouded its opponents in its last four contests, grabbing its highest totals for defensive rebounding in conference play against Hofstra and Drexel with 29 and 28, respectively.
- After giving up at least 80 regulation points in six of their first eight contests, the Dukes held all three opponents below 80 in regulation on the road trip, though Hofstra eclipsed the 80-point mark in overtime on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
- The Phoenix enter play on Thursday having split a home weekend, beating UNCW on Thursday before falling to College of Charleston.
- Elon is 7-4 at home in 2021-22, but is a combined 0-13 in road and neutral contests.
- Sophomore Darius Burford leads Elon with 13.3 points per game, tying a career-high with 27 points against UNCW last week.
- Junior guard Hunter McIntosh scored 18 points on 6-of-6 three-point shooting in the first meeting between the two sides.
SERIES HISTORY
- The two teams matched up on Jan. 17 in North Carolina, with Elon making 12 first-half threes en route to a 90-67 victory.
- After JMU took both regular season meetings last year, Elon won the final meeting of the season in the conference tournament on March 7 in Harrisonburg. The Phoenix erased a 15-point deficit to pull off a 72-71 upset and eventually reached the tournament finals.
