LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Senior
Neal Shipley posted his first career top-five finish on Tuesday afternoon, leading the James Madison men's golf team as the Dukes took third place at the Southern Invitational, hosted by Loyola at the par-72, 6,757-yard course at The Falls Club.

Shipley posted the Dukes' lowest score in each of the final two rounds, carding 73-67-70 (-6) across the week to tie for fifth among 60 competitors.

The performance matched his best collegiate 54-hole score, while his second-round 67 (-5) tied his best college round and was his lowest since notching the same score in the second round of the 2020 UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate.

As a team, the Dukes used a stellar second round of 279 (-9) on Monday afternoon to propel themselves into sole possession of third on the 11-team leaderboard, trailing only No. 37 Ohio State and Florida Atlantic on the week.

Sophomore
Sigurður Blumenstein had a strong week, posting 72-71-74 (+1) on the week to tie for 11th, his highest finish at JMU. Redshirt senior
Ignacio Montero (74-71-76) tied for 23rd while freshman
Daniel Cheng (73-70-79) was a stroke behind in a tie for 27th, while redshirt junior
Nick Schlickenrieder (74-78-72) closed out the JMU scoring in 34th.

The Dukes will have next week off before resuming their spring slate on March 27-28, when they travel to the Seahawk Intercollegiate, hosted by UNCW at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
