Shifflett Has Career Performance as Dukes Down George Mason in Wednesday Doubleheader

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Softball shut out George Mason 9-0 in both games of Wednesday's doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Dukes improved to 14-13 on the season while the Patriots fell to 13-14.

GAME 1: JMU 9, George Mason 0
Jasmine Hall put the Dukes on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI double before a a two-run single by Hannah Hennessy made it 3-0.

The Dukes extended their lead in the second when Morgan Mesaros scored on a passed ball. Boseman then sent home Hannah Shifflett with a double up the middle to put JMU up 5-0.

A dominant sixth inning gave the Dukes their first win of the day with Fishman finding the plate after a Patriot error. Emily Phillips' first career triple sent three runners home to earn the run-rule win.

Alissa Humphrey pitched six innings with only two hits while throwing 11 strikeouts.

GAME 2: JMU 9, George Mason 0
The bats were hot in the second game as all runs scored came off homers. In the Dukes' first at bat of the game, Shifflett homered to right field. Lauren Bernett then put JMU up 4-0 with her three-run blast over the left field fence.

Shifflett went on to hit two more home runs to record a career-best three homers in a single game. The North Garden, Va. native brought in three runs in the bottom of the second with a shot to center field before giving the Dukes a 9-0 lead with a two-run homer to left center in the fourth inning.

Her three home run performance ties the school record for most homers by a player in a single game. The redshirt junior also set the record for total bases with 12.Â

JMU collected a quick three outs in the top of the fifth to notch their second run-rule victory of the day.

Meredith Wells pitched her first full-game shutout while tallying two strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

The Dukes are headed down to UNCW Saturday, Apr. 2 (12 p.m. & 2:00 p.m.) and Sunday, Apr. 3 (12 p.m.) for their second conference series of the season. All three games will be streamed on FloSoftball.
