HARRISONBURG, Va. - Sophomore pinch-hitter Lauren Bernett launched the first pitch of the bottom of the seventh inning over the center field fence for a walk-off home run, propelling James Madison softball to a 3-2 win over Hofstra on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
Â
The Dukes (16-18, 5-4 CAA) only needed five hits to take out the Pride (13-19, 6-2 CAA) in the series finale.
Â
Alexis Bermudez racked up a season high eight strikeouts while Hallie Hall added a two-run homer to put the Dukes on the board.
Â
Hofstra started things off in the top of the second with an RBI double down the left field line, then followed it up with a home run in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead.Â
Â
JMU's defense was able to hold off Hofstra for the rest of the game, only allowing one hit after the third inning, with Hall's homer tying up the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Â
After the Dukes kept the Pride scoreless in the top of the seventh, Bernett only needed one pitch to walk things off for the Dukes with her sixth homer over the year.
