IOWA CITY, Iowa - The James Madison men's golf team posted its best round of the weekend on Sunday, climbing into eighth place to close out the Hawkeye Invitational, hosted by Iowa at the par-72, 7,157-yard Finkbine Golf Course.

The Dukes carded rounds of 296-298-294 across Saturday and Sunday, holding off ninth-place Cincinnati and 10th-place Nebraska down the stretch to take eighth on the 14-team leaderboard at +24.

Senior
Ignacio Montero led the way for the Dukes, grabbing his third top-10 finish of the year with an even-par 216 (74-69-73) performance that tied him for 10th. His weekend was highlighted by a second-round 69 (-3) that marked the fourth-lowest round in the 78-player field on Saturday afternoon.

Nick Schlickenrieder joined Montero inside the top 25, capping the weekend with a 2-under 70 on Sunday that pushed him 19 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 22nd at 220 (74-76-70). Senior
Ignacio De Pineda was tied for 39th after his own strong finish, shooting 76-77-72 to close at 225 (+9).

Neal Shipley tied for 68th at 231 (73-76-82), while freshman
Daniel Cheng closed out the JMU scoring in 74th at 235 (75-81-79).

UP NEXT
The Dukes will cap their 2021-22 season next week, traveling to Dataw Island in Beaufort, S.C. to take part in the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Championship on April 24-26.

The Dukes are ineligible to compete for the team championship following a vote by the league's Board of Directors in November, but will still be eligible to win the individual title and accompanying bid to NCAA Regionals. GolfStat will provide live results of the event.
