HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison men's basketball team has officially added guard
Noah Freidel for the 2022-23 season, Head Coach
Mark Byington announced on Friday morning.
Freidel joins the Dukes after three standout seasons at South Dakota State, having averaged 13.6 points and 3.7 rebounds across 63 career games with the Jackrabbits, posting an eye-popping 39.2% (146-372) clip from the three-point line in that time.
"Noah is very talented - he is very competitive and an elite scorer with deep range," Byington said. "In his young career, he's already had many big games - I'm excited to coach him. He has dealt with some adversity and is eager to be a role model for others and help us win at a high level."
This past season, the 6'4" guard averaged 20.1 points across the first 11 games of the season, hitting at least two three-pointers in each of those contests. In 2019-20 as a freshman, he averaged 15.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in conference games, earning both Summit League Rookie of the Year and All-Summit League Honorable Mention honors.
Freidel, who arrives in Harrisonburg with two years of eligibility remaining, will be the fourth different player on the JMU roster to have earned a league's Rookie of the Year honors in his career, joining
Takal Molson (MAAC, 2017-18),
Vado Morse (NEC, 2018-19) and
Tyree Ihenacho (Summit, 2020-21).
Prior to arriving at SDSU, Freidel averaged 22.8 points, 8.4 rebounds 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game as a senior at Tea High School, capturing First Team All-State honors for the second straight season after racking up 26 points per contest as a junior.
Freidel will join a JMU roster that returns more than 80% of its scoring from the 2021-22 campaign and already
added incoming freshman forward Jerell Roberson this past November.
