LEXINGTON, Va. – Redshirt sophomore
Chase DeLauter had his first career multi-home run game and knocked in six runs to lead James Madison baseball over VMI, 12-2, on Wednesday evening at Gray-Minor Stadium.
The Dukes move to 17-11 and have won nine of their last 12 games, while the Keydets fall to 9-21. JMU now sweeps the season series with VMI, winning 28-4 when the two teams squared off earlier this season in Harrisonburg.
Redshirt sophomore
CJ Czerwinski started and went a season-high 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. Freshman
Todd Mozoki went two innings of relief and earned his first career win. DeLauter led the Dukes at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, two home runs, and six RBI's.
How It Happened
JMU got on the board early, as DeLauter hit his first home run in the first inning for a 2-0 lead after redshirt junior
Trevon Dabney led off with a walk. DeLauter then hit his second homer, a solo shot, in the third. Freshmen
Fenwick Trimble doubled two batters later and came home when redshirt junior
Travis Reifsnider singled him in for a 4-0 lead.
VMI scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to two, 4-2, but the Dukes would respond scoring eight unanswered runs over the next three innings.
A pair of walks and a bunt single loaded the bases for DeLauter in the fourth, who then hit a double to clear the bases and give JMU a 7-2 lead. Classmate
Jacob Steinberg singled a run in the fifth inning after back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. A four-run inning in the sixth followed, as redshirt junior
Kyle Novak doubled in a run and was followed two batters later by Reifsnider who a three-run blast for his fifth homer of the season and a 12-2 JMU lead.
Mozoki,

Matt Leikus, and
Ryan Cook combined to throw five scoreless innings and six strikeouts to keep the Keydets off the board and maintain the 12-2 lead for the win.
