Dukes Drop Wednesday Night Matchup at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – James Madison softball fell to in-state rival Virginia 7-1 Wednesday evening at Palmer Park.

The Dukes fell to 15-16 while the Cavaliers improved to 21-16.

Virginia quickly took a 4-0 lead following the first inning to distance themselves from JMU.Â
Â
In the top of the fourth, Lauren Bernett hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Jasmine Hall and put the Dukes on the board. However, the Cavaliers extended their lead in the bottom of the inning with a three-run homer over the left-center fence.

JMU registered three hits across the fifth and sixth innings but were unable to bring in any runners to chip away at the deficit.

Virginia collected a quick three outs in the top of the seventh to end the game and win game one of the home and home series against the Dukes.
