HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Head Coach
Steve Secord has named
Bastien Huon as the men's tennis program's new assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.
Â
Huon joins the Dukes fresh off his collegiate career, in which he was a two-time First Team All-Sun Belt Conference singles selection at Coastal Carolina.
Â
"I am thrilled to have Bastien Huon join our program as assistant coach for this upcoming year," Secord said. "I have seen Bastien compete at Campbell and then Coastal Carolina and had always been impressed with his game and competitiveness. However, during the interview process I was drawn to his passion for the game and desire to build a great team culture. I have no doubt that Bastien is going to be an amazing coach and our student-athletes are going to benefit from working with him on a daily basis. I can't wait to get back on the court and work beside Bastien with our incredible group of guys. Go Dukes!"
Â
"I am delighted to be working with the JMU men's tennis program," Huon said. "Coach Secord and I instantly had a great connection, and I felt a very welcoming atmosphere from talking to players and staff members here. I cannot wait to share my experience as a passionate tennis player, and I am very excited to learn more about the coaching side amongst a hardworking group of guys."
Â
Over the past two seasons at Coastal (2021-22), Huon captured 21 dual-match wins at the #1 singles spot while also winning 16 doubles bouts, primarily at the #2 slot. He ranked as high as #100 in the ITA singles rankings in 2021 and #116 in 2022.
Â
Prior to CCU, he played two seasons at Campbell (2019-20), where he was a Second Team all-Big South Conference singles and doubles honoree. He won 29 singles matches while adding 25 doubles victories for the Camels.
Â
Off the court, he was as a broadcast production intern in the Coastal athletics department for the 2021-22 academic year, while also serving as a communications and development intern for Brittany Tennis Federation in Vannes, France in 2018.
Â
Huon graduated from Coastal Carolina in May 2022 with a master of science in sports management. He also earned two undergraduate degrees, with a bachelor of business administration in May 2020 from Campbell and an undergraduate technological degree of business & marketing from IUT Vannes in France.

His first official day with the program will be Aug. 8.
