TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – James Madison volleyball fell to Florida State, 3-0, on Thursday evening at Tully Gymnasium in its first of three Florida matches this week.

The Seminoles improved to 4-1 on the young season, while the Dukes dropped their first of the year to move to 3-1.

FSU hit .337 as a team while holding JMU to a .188 clip.

Miëtte Veldman led JMU and tied for match-high honors with 11 kills with a .357 hitting percentage, while
Caroline Dozier recorded 22 assists.

Florida State was paced by Audrey Koenig and Audrey Rothman, who each registered 11 kills to tie Veldman. Khori Lewis added nine kills, and Ava Pitchford led all players with 23 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Florida State took an early lead and never trailed, outhitting JMU .273 to .121. Veldman led the set overall with four kills, trailed by two Seminoles with three kills each.

Second Set
The Dukes battled back-and-forth early on through the second, with the score all square at 12-12. A 4-0 Seminole run put the hosts back in front, and they never conceded the lead to take a two-set advantage.

Third Set
In the third and final set, Florida State got off to a fast 6-1 start. The Dukes pulled out a 3-0 run to bring the score to 18-15, but the Seminoles were able to close out the match by a 25-17 score.

UP NEXT
The Dukes continue their stretch in Tallahassee with a matchup against Yale on Friday at 6 p.m., which will be played at FSU. JMU closes the weekend Saturday at 1 p.m. at Florida A&M.
