LOUISVILLEÂ -- A stingy James Madison defense held Bellarmine to four shots as the Dukes earned a 3-0 road victory Saturday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
JMU sits even at 3-3, while Bellarmine's record is 0-5.
Sophomore Cassidy Strittmatter paced the Dukes offensively with a pair of goals, both unassisted. Senior captain Diede Remijnse scored the opening goal with an assist from junior Mikenna Allen. Junior Brandelynn Heinbaugh earned the start and made two saves to record James Madison's first shutout of the season.
How It Happened
- Remijnse opened up the scoring with a strike late in the first quarter with an assist from classmate Kara McClure.
- Strittmatter found the back of the net off a rebound to put JMU up by a pair at the 8:51 mark of the second period.
- Allen connected with Strittmatter for a goal minutes later to make it 3-0.
- The Dukes' defense locked in during the second quarter, not allowing the Knights to register a shot.
- JMU's offense applied heavy pressure early in the second half, recording nine shots in the third period.
- The Knights could not get past the Dukes' tight defense, failing once again to get a shot off in the fourth quarter.
Game Notes
- JMU now owns a 1-0 record in the all-time series between the two schools.
- The shutout was the program's first since topping Temple, 2-0, last season on Oct. 17.
