After a scoreless first half, Scotty McGee opened the second half with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Just two minutes later, Landers ran 62 yards to the house on JMU's first offensive play. The Dukes added a Griff Yancey 35-yard touchdown catch to make it a 24-21 game heading to the fourth.
Holloman put the Dukes in front, at 28-24, with 10:48 to play, and he later set up Landers' one-yard touchdown with 2:31 to play.
App State added a score less than a minute later, but the Dukes recovered the ensuing onside kick.
Armanti Edwards threw for 142 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 109 to lead App's offense. Robert Welton added 92 yards and a pair of scores on the ground.
