HARRISONBURG, Va. –
Sophie Davis led James Madison volleyball with a .692 hitting percentage in its 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-23) win over Appalachian State to sweep the series on Saturday afternoon at Sinclair Gym.

The Dukes moved up to 8-3 (2-0) and the Mountaineers fell to 7-5 (2-0).

Miëtte Veldman recorded 12 kills, followed closely by Bre Reid and Davis with 11 each. JMU out-killed App State 45-27 and held them to a .090 hitting percentage. The Dukes did not trail the Mountaineers until the beginning of the third set, holding the lead through the first two sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
The Dukes started off 3-0 in the set and strengthened their lead later on with a 4-1 lead to put them up 14-9. Davis has a perfect first set, going seven for seven at the net to give JMU the first set.

Second Set
Starting the set off with a 10-1 start, the Dukes dominated the court in the second set. Reid led the second set with six kills to give the Dukes the edge over the Mountaineers.

Third Set
Reminiscent of the match on Friday, the third set was neck-and-neck until the very end. Down 23-22, the Dukes rallied a 3-0 run to wrap up the series and start Sun Belt play 2-0.

UP NEXT
The Dukes will head out west to San Marcos, Texas to take on Texas State on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
