James Madison men's hoops will head to Mobile, Ala. for a Thursday Night tilt against South Alabama.
The Dukes dropped its second straight contest last time out, falling at home to App State 71-62. JMU fell to 2-2 in conference play, with the road team taking all four games in the Dukes' Sun Belt Conference tilts.
With wins over Georgia State and Marshall, JMU is 2-0 on the road in league play for the first time since the 2015-16 season, when the Dukes won their first four road conference contests.
In eight wins over Division I opponents, the Dukes have won by an average of 25.4 points, with margins of 48, 35, 26, 19, 17, 36, 16 and six points. In contrast, just one defeat of JMU's six has been by double-digits (16 at then-#1 North Carolina).
In their first 17 games, the Dukes have shot 50% or better from the field nine times, already marking the most such performances since the 2016-17 season. Three players have shot .600 or better with at least 40 attempts taken: Justin Amadi (.697), Mezie Offurum (.651), and Xavier Brown (.614). Amadi's field goal percentage ranks sixth in the country individually.
Though JMU averages 86.5 points per game this season, the Dukes have slowed to 64.8 points per game in conference play.
A pair of Dukes in Terrence Edwards and Mezie Offurum have found scoring consistency, with Edwards reaching 15 or more points eight times while Offurum has scored in double figures in 11 of 14.
Leading scorer Vado Morse (12.7 ppg) returned to the lineup on Saturday after missing three games with seven points and two steals.
JMU has significantly out-shot opponents at the free throw line, with 75 more makes and 91 more attempts at the charity stripe.
The Dukes added eight steals to their total against App State, and lead the country with 185 total steals on the year. JMU is third in steals per game with 10.9 overall, averaging 7.0 in league play.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS

South Alabama fell to Texas State 64-58 on Saturday, suffering just its second home loss of the season (4-2).
The Jaguars' offense is led by Isaiah Moore who has 17.5 points per game and 4.7 assists per game, both ranking fourth in the SBC.
USA is last in the league in rebounds per game, only pulling in 32.8 per contest.
South Alabama has already blocked 19 shots in league play, including eight rejections in its win over Arkansas State.

SERIES HISTORY

Each side has taken two victories in the all-time series between the teams, with JMU winning most recently in Harrisonburg in 1991.
Thursday will be the second matchup at South Alabama, as the Jaguars won their only other home game, 74-65, on Dec. 22, 1990.
