HARRISONBURG, Va. – #25 James Madison returns to Bridgeforth Stadium for a Homecoming showdown with in-state foe Old Dominion on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Kickoff is set for 8 p.m., and the game will be nationally televised on ESPNU. Pregame radio coverage on the Morris Insurance & Financial JMU Radio Network begins at 6 p.m.
Saturday's game is sponsored by University Outpost, and the 2023 season is presented by CarMax.
BREAKING DOWN THE SERIES
- It will be the fourth meeting all-time between the teams, with ODU leading 2-1.
- Last season on Nov. 12, 2022 in Norfolk, JMU rolled to a 37-3 victory against the Monarchs,
- This game is part of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge, which JMU leads ODU, 3.5-1.5 entering Saturday.
- As FCS members, ODU defeated JMU 23-20 in the inaugural meeting in Norfolk on Oct. 29, 2011. The Monarchs also won 38-28 in their only previous trip to Harrisonburg on Nov. 17, 2012.
NATIONALLY RANKED IN BOTH POLLS
- JMU was ranked #25 in both the AP Top 25 and US LBM Coaches Poll following its 7-0 start in 2023.
- It's the first time JMU has been ranked in both polls, while it's the second time appearing in the AP Top 25.
- On Oct. 9, 2022, JMU made its debut in the AP Top 25 in year one of FBS, rounding out the poll that week.
- Last week, JMU was the first team outside both top 25's and entered the polls following its win at Marshall, coupled with Iowa's loss to Minnesota.
- The Dukes are the third-highest ranked group of five program, behind #19 Air Force and #22 Tulane.
- Saturday's game will also be JMU's first home game as an FBS nationally-ranked team.
AND THEN THERE WERE NINE...
- Entering this week's action, JMU is one of only nine teams with an undefeated record.
- JMU is the sole Sun Belt Conference team without a blemish and also the only squad in the league without a conference loss entering week nine of the college football season.
- Of the nine remaining unbeatens, only JMU, Air Force and Liberty hail from a non-power conference.
- Only the Big Ten has multiple teams with an undefeated record, with Michigan at 8-0 and Ohio State at 7-0.
- Other 7-0 teams include the ACC's Florida State, Oklahoma out of the Big 12, Liberty from Conference USA, Air Force out of the Mountain West, Washington from the Pac-12 and defending champion Georgia from the SEC.
- Michigan is on a bye, while all other teams are in action this week.
- JMU is only undefeated team to play at home this week, while all others are on the road, except Georgia, which plays Florida in Jacksonville in a neutral-site contest.

- JMU's 20-9 win at Marshall on Oct. 19 extended JMU's active win streak to 10 in a row dating back to last season.
- The Dukes hold on to the fifth-longest active win streak in the FBS and the longest in the Sun Belt.
- Defending national champion Georgia leads the list with 24 straight going back to 2021.
- Washington has won 14 in a row, followed by Florida State's 13 and Air Force's 12.
- JMU is the only team on the list playing a home game this week.
GREEN, HANSON EARN SUN BELT AND NATIONAL HONORS
- Jalen Green and Ryan Hanson were honored both at the conference and national level following their performances in the Marshall win.
- Green was voted Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week Monday after being named College Football Network National Defensive Player of the Week the day prior. It was his first Sun Belt honor and second CFN national accolade.
- Hanson was also named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week following his Co-Special Teams Player of the Week nod from CFN. Hanson took home Sun Belt laurels for the second time in his career and first time since 2020 while at Arkansas State.
- Green recorded a program-record five sacks while tallying 5.5 tackles for loss at Marshall. It was the first five-sack performance in nearly three years in the FBS, and he was the first Sun Belt player to do so since 2013.
- Hanson pinned all seven of his punts inside the 20, including six inside the 10 and three at the one.
