NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference has announced on Tuesday afternoon that James Madison men's soccer redshirt junior Evan Southern has been named the Offensive Player of the Week.
Earlier today, he was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and an honorable mention to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week.
Southern aided the Dukes in a 2-0 week with 3-1 wins against Old Dominion and Georgia State to jump JMU to fourth place in the conference and stand at a record of 6-3-5, 2-2-3 SBC.
The South Glastonbury, Conn. native began the week by scoring an equalizing goal against Old Dominion, spearheading a three-goal second half for JMU to down the Monarchs in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge. He then netted the first JMU hat trick since Manuel Ferriol in 2019, as he provided all of the scoring on the road at Georgia State for the victory.
The hat trick is Southern's second multi-goal match of the year for the Dukes and his third career since transferring to JMU. It is his fourth hat trick of his collegiate career, scoring two at Iowa Western CC in addition to a five-goal match.
JMU will be back on the pitch on Friday, Oct. 27 as they host Georgia Southern at Sentara Park for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
