Dukes Finish Strong at River City Tennis Open

RICHMOND, Va. – James Madison men's tennis notched a combined 20 victories this weekend at the River City Tennis Open, hosted by the University of Richmond on Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8.

Youssef Sadek led the way with a 5-1 record, going 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles action. Going 2-1 in singles matches were Julian Lozano, Francisco Sinopoli, Aathreya Mahesh, Harrison Lee and Mario Pena.

The event was played at UR's Westhampton Courts on Friday and Sunday, while Saturday's action was relocated to the Raintree Swim & Racquet Club due to inclement weather.

JMU opened play Friday going 5-3 in singles and 4-4 in doubles, competing against both Navy and Richmond. Lozano and Sadek went 2-0 in doubles bouts, while the two each won in singles play. All other Dukes split doubles matches, while Sinopoli, Mahesh and Pena joined them in the singles win column.

On Saturday, JMU collected five total wins, as Lee and Pena teamed to win in doubles while each registered singles victories. Esteve Agusti and Mahesh also won in doubles play.

In Sunday's finale, the Dukes closed strong, winning six of eight doubles matches against Villanova. Celebrating his birthday, Lozano won a tight match at the top slot, while Sadek cruised at the No. 2 position. Agusti and Mahesh pulled away on their respective courts, while Lee was dominant in his bout.
