HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's basketball made 31-of-63 (.492) from the field to overpower VCU, 78-65, inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Sunday afternoon.

JMU (4-1) pulled down 45 rebounds and held the Rams (3-1) to 3-of-19 (.158) from three.

Peyton McDaniel led all players with 19 points with a 7-for-15 (.467) shooting clip. Redshirt junior
Jamia Hazell registered a season-high 15 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Classmate
Annalicia Goodman added 12 points and a season-high eight boards, while
Steph Ouderkirk dished out a career-high five assists to go along with five rebounds.

VCU's Timaya Lewis-Eutsey paced the Rams with 18 points and six boards. Sarah Te-Biasu chipped in with 13 points and a pair of assists. Mykel Parham tied for the game-lead with eight rebounds in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
- VCU built a 9-6 edge at the 6:49 mark, its biggest lead of the game.
- James Madison responded with a 16-3 run to close out the frame.
- The Dukes made 9-of-17 (.529) from the field in the quarter to make it 22-12 after one.
Second Quarter
- Goodman was physical in the paint, scoring eight points and grabbing three rebounds.
- The JMU defense locked in late in the period, holding the Rams without a made field goal for the final 3:33.
- Redshirt junior Olivia Mullins hit a buzzer-beater from just past half court to put the Dukes up 43-30 at the intermission.
Third Quarter
- VCU took advantage of a pair of James Madison turnovers to cut the deficit to nine (43-34) at the 8:44 mark.
- Hazell got the Dukes back on track with a three-pointer, followed closely behind by a McDaniel step-back jumper.
- Barnes knocked down a pair of mid-range shots to give JMU a 56-40 advantage with 1:31 left. Her six points in the quarter created a 59-42 lead heading into the final period.
Fourth Quarter
- Both defenses tightened up with neither team finding the bottom of the net for the first 1:49 of the quarter.
- The Rams trailed by eight (68-60) after a Zoli Khalil layup with 2:36 remaining.
- Despite six turnovers in a frantic final frame, Hazell scored six points while the Dukes went 7-for-8 (.875) from the line to earn the home win, 78-65.

- James Madison owns a 49-17 record in the all-time series against the Rams and has won 11 consecutive matchups.
- The Dukes scored more paint points (40-30), bench points (28-21) and second chance points (11-9).
