Saturday, November 25, 2023
Kickoff: 3:30 PM ET
Conway, S.C. | Brooks Stadium
This will be the fourth meeting all-time between the teams, with JMU leading 2-1.
The Dukes have won two straight meetings, including a 47-7 victory in the 2022 regular-season finale.
That win gave JMU a share of first place in the SBC East Division and Kings of the East was born.
JMU is 2-0 in home games but 0-1 in its only trip to Conway.
While both teams were FCS programs, Coastal won the inaugural meeting 31-27 on Sept. 10, 2005.
Since then, JMU's two home wins came by a combined 92 to 17.
WHAT'S AT STAKE? FIRST IN THE EAST.
Three teams are vying for first place in the Sun Belt East Division entering the final week.
JMU holds a one-game lead on App State and Coastal Carolina, as it can finish no worse than tied for first for the second time in as many seasons as a Sun Belt member.
JMU can capture first place outright with a win, while Coastal can clinch a share with a win and App State also share with a win and Coastal win.
In the West, Troy has already wrapped up the division, holding a two-game lead entering the last weekend.
JMU has finished at least tied for first in the conference or in a division now in five straight seasons and in eight of the past nine seasons.
STAYING IN THE TOP 25
Despite its first loss in 2023 last Saturday, JMU remained in the AP Top 25, coming in at #24 this week.
It's the fifth straight week JMU has been ranked by the media.
JMU is the fourth-highest ranked team in Group of Five this week, as Tulane is 18th, Liberty is 22nd and Toledo is 23rd. Four G5 teams in the poll is also a season high.
The Dukes are also receiving votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll, serving as the fifth team outside that top 25.
Between both polls, JMU has at least received votes in one poll every week this season.
 DUKES FALL IN OT THRILLER
JMU saw its 13-game win streak come to an end last week, as it suffered a 26-23 setback in overtime to App State at Bridgeforth Stadium.
JMU trailed 17-5 in the fourth before putting together back-to-back 75-yard touchdown drives. With 57 seconds to play, Elijah Sarratt caught an 11-yard touchdown pass and followed that up with a toe tapper for the two-point conversion to tie the game.
After a D'Angelo Ponds interception forced overtime, JMU took a 23-20 lead on a Camden Wise field goal.
App State answered with an eight-yard touchdown catch by Kaedin Robinson to secure App's State's win.
WHAT A RIDE FOR 13 STRAIGHT WEEKS
Until last week, JMU held the fourth-longest win streak in the FBS and largest in the Group of Five, at 13 straight victories.
It was the third-longest win streak in program history.
JMU won a program-record 26 straight games from 2016-17 and reeled off 14 in a row in 2019.
The Dukes have rattled off double-digit win streaks five times in the history of the program.
 DOUBLE-DIGIT WIN TEAMS
Entering the final week of the regular season, JMU is one of 13 teams with at least 10 wins.
It is the eighth time in JMU's 52-season history it has won at least 10 games.
Leading the pack with 11 wins are unbeatens Florida State, Georgia, Liberty, Michigan, Ohio State and Washington.
Joining JMU in the 10-1 club are Alabama, Louisville, Oregon, Texas, Toledo and Tulane.
COLLEGE GAMEDAY ON THE QUAD
Last weekend, James Madison hosted ESPN College GameDay on the picturesque Quad with Wilson Hall serving as the backdrop.
It was the third time JMU has had the nation's premier college football program on its campus and this one was by far the largest crowd.
In 2015 and 2017, more than 12,000 fans attended those shows.
This time around, ESPN estimated greater than 26,000 fans on the Quad for College GameDay, shattering the show's all-time record of about 18,000 spectators.
This also came a day after Friday's Pat McAfee Show, which drew an estimated 5,000 fans.
JMU became the first on-campus location outside Power Five institutions to host the GameDay three times.
