Obara, Robles Named to All-Region Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – James Madison redshirt seniors Clay Obara and Rodrigo Robles were named to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-Southeast Regions Teams, the organization announced Tuesday.
The pair helped lead the Dukes to their fifth appearance in the round of 16 and 16th overall appearance in the NCAA Division I Championship. JMU finished 2023 with a 10-5-5 record, the 30th 10-win season in program history.
A Second Team selection at midfield, Obara played in and started all 20 matches this season. He finished the year tied for third on the side in points with 16 behind six goals and four assists and his 24 shots on goal rank tied for third in the Sun Belt Conference. His efforts garnered him All-Sun Belt First Team honors, his second all-conference nod of his career. He finished his JMU career playing in 84 matches, ranking fourth all time in program history.
Earning his first all-region honor like Obara, Robles was named a Third Team forward after playing in 19 matches with 18 starts. The All-Sun Belt Second Team selection led the side in goals (nine) and points (24) and tied for the lead in assists (six). It is the first 20-point season for a Duke since Manuel Ferriol broke the single-season record in 2019 and the most goals in a season since Luca Erhardt netted nine in 2021. He heated up down the stretch, scoring in four straight beginning Oct. 27 and recording a point in six straight from Oct. 18-Nov. 16. His brace against Pitt in the first round of the NCAA Championship gave him 20 goals and 20 assists for his career.
