NORFOLK, Va. – Down 67-61 with 3:29 in overtime, James Madison went on a 12-1 run while Old Dominion shot 0-for-3 from the floor and had three turnovers for a 73-68 road victory on Saturday afternoon inside Chartway Arena.
The win gave JMU (22-6, 12-4 SBC) the season sweep over ODU (19-10, 11-5 SBC). The Monarchs face Marshall on Feb. 22 in Huntington, W.Va.

Kiki Jefferson tied her season-high with 30 points on 8-of-17 (47.1%) from the field and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the line, playing a career-high 39 minutes. She was a major factor in overtime, hitting 6-of-6 from the charity stripe and grabbing a pair of rebounds. Graduate student
Caroline Germond recorded Division I career-highs in points (14), field goals made (5), and minutes (41). The guard made a jumper, sunk two free throws, and nabbed a steal in overtime. Junior
Kseniia Kozlova finished with 10 points and pulled down six boards in the win.
How It Happened
- Old Dominion finished the first quarter up 19-17, with 12 points coming from Amari Young. Germond scored eight points in the opening frame, highlighted by a pair of triples.
- The Dukes got hot early in the second period, going on a 9-0 run to make it 26-20 JMU with 7:38 left to play.
- The teams traded baskets until James Madison suffered a cold shooting stretch. The Dukes closed the first half 0-for-7 from the field as ODU led at the break, 33-31.
- James Madison locked down defensively, holding Old Dominion to just nine points in the third. The Dukes scored 13 points in the frame, four coming from both Jefferson and Kozlova for the 44-42 edge.
- The Monarchs fought back and built a four-point lead, 50-46, less than two minutes into the final quarter. JMU responded by regaining control at the 4:10 mark, holding a 56-52 advantage.
- Old Dominion's Kaye Clark tied the game at 59 apiece with a layup with 12 seconds remaining. After Head Coach Sean O'Regan called timeout, junior Kobe King-Hawea found Kozlova underneath the basket for the easy score as the clock showed five seconds left. However, Amari Young quickly got in the paint and nailed a jumper to send the game to overtime, 61-61.
- ODU got off to a great start, jumping out to a 67-61 lead with 3:29 to go. Undeterred, Germond knocked down a long jumpshot to give the Dukes energy. The guard's basket sparked a 12-1 run, including an 8-0 run the final 2:03 for the 73-68 road victory.

- James Madison trails in the all-time series against Old Dominion 53-27.
- The Dukes have defeated the Monarchs in seven consecutive meets and nine out of the last 10 times.
- With its regular-season sweep in women's basketball, JMU now leads Old Dominion by a 9.5-2.5 margin in the inaugural TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge. JMU has won five straight matchups, including a win in football and pair of victories by both basketball teams.
- The win over ODU marked the first time in 2022-23 in which JMU has beaten a team they've faced for the second time.
- Jefferson's 30-point showing was her second time this season reaching the 30-point plateau and the fifth time in her career. The Lancaster, Pa. native dropped 30 against #13 North Carolina on Nov. 20. Moreover, the guard has now produced six games in her senior campaign with 10 or more makes from the line with 13 makes today.
- Lastly, the guard's five rebounds give her 780 in her career, good for No. 10 on the program's all-time rebounding list. Jefferson passed former Duke and current head coach at Queens (N.C.), Jennifer Brown (2003-05, 06-08).
- With 14 points, Germond has now scored in double figures twice in the last three games. Previously, the graduate student had registered double-digits in scoring once all year with 10 versus Coastal Caroline on Dec. 29.
- The Monarchs won the rebounding battle 42-33, making it the first time JMU has won a game despite being out-rebounded since defeating VCU 62-60 on Dec. 1. The Rams also had a rebound margin of +9 against the Dukes. Additionally, 33 boards are the lowest for James Madison so far this season.
- The Dukes forced a season-high 25 turnovers. Earlier in the season, Eastern Michigan committed 24 turnovers in 40 minutes of play on Dec. 20.
