THE DUKES
- James Madison will play in its final regular season home game with a battle against Marshall on Friday, Feb. 24. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
- The game against the Thundering Herd will also be Senior Night. The team will celebrate the careers of manager David Norton, graduate student Caroline Germond, and senior Kiki Jefferson.
- JMU outscored App State 25-11 in the final quarter to come away with a 78-62 victory on Wednesday night inside the Holmes Convocation Center. With the win and a loss by Troy to Southern Miss, 88-79, the Dukes have at least a share of the regular season Sun Belt title and have secured the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
- Junior Peyton McDaniel tallied 18 points against the Mountaineers, shooting 4-for-10 (40.0%) from three and tying her career-high with 10 rebounds to earn her first career double-double. Jefferson dropped 17 points on 6-of-12 (50.0%) from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
- The team ranks in the top 25 nationally in four categories: defensive rebounds per game (13th - 29.9), rebounds per game (17th - 42.74), field goal percentage defense (19th - 35.9), and rebound margin (19th - +8.0).
- The Dukes also boast six top-three Sun Belt Conference marks: opponent field goal percentage (1st - 35.9), opponent three-point percentage (2nd - 28.3), team defensive rebounds (2nd - 29.9 rpg), rebound margin (2nd - +8.0), scoring margin (3rd - +9.3), and combined opponent rebounds (3rd - 34.7 rpg).
- Jefferson is tied for first in the NCAA in free throws made (183) with Iowa's Caitlin Clark and second in free throw attempts (231) behind LSU's Angel Reese (257). Additionally, the Lancaster, Pa. native is tied for 18th with Maryland's Diamond Miller in total points (541), and 30th in points per game (18.7). The guard also leads the SBC in points per game (18.7) and fifth in rebounds per game (8.3).
- Graduate student Caroline Germond is first in the Sun Belt and 25th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.34.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD
- Marshall sits at 15-13 with an 8-9 record against Sun Belt Competition. Head Coach Tony Kemper's team has had five double-digit comebacks this season, while each of its nine league losses by ten points or fewer. Additionally, all of the team's eight SBC wins have been by no more than 12 points with five wins having a margin of five or fewer.
- The Thundering Herd rank 31st in the NCAA in turnovers per game at 13.1 and 46th in three-point attempts per game with 24.1 per contest.
- Marshall is led by guard Abby Beeman, who owns three top-40 marks in the country: assists (T-18th - 150), assists per game (T-21st - 5.4), and assist-to-turnover ratio (35th - 2.24).
SERIES HISTORY
- James Madison holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series against Marshall and has won four consecutive meetings.
- The Dukes' only loss to the Thundering Herd came on Feb. 6, 1982, when JMU dropped a tight 72-69 road affair.
- Head Coach Sean O'Regan's program came out on top in the teams' first meeting this year, 74-67, on Jan. 5 in Huntington, W.Va.
