Dukes Clinch First Two Wins at Wolfpack Classic

Raleigh, N.C. – James Madison softball competed in its first two games at the Wolfpack Classic on Friday morning. The team won their first game against Penn, 7-5, then picked up their second victory of the day against East Tennessee State, 5-2.
James Madison advances to 5-3 overall while Penn falls 0-1 on its season. ETSU will move to 1-10 on its season.
JMU 7, Penn 5
Graduate student Hannah Shifflett got the momentum flowing when she hit a solo shot on the first pitch of the game and sophomore Jasmine Hall blasted two home runs of her own, her career high.
Sophomore Rebecca Muh recorded her second win of the season in the circle for the Dukes. Muh pitched 4.1 innings, striking out one batter and only giving up two walks. Muh kept the Quakers hitless for five innings.
Sophomore Lexi Rogers and junior Alissa Humphrey both also made appearances in today's matchup. The Dukes turned to Humphrey in the last inning, when she shut down the Quakers with two strikeouts to secure the win.
Junior Kylee Gleason also tallied two hits during today's competition.
Penn scored each of their runs from two two-run home runs and an unearned run.
Graduate student Hannah Shifflett, graduate student Hallie Hall, freshman Bella Henzler, freshman KK Mathis, junior Reed Butler, sophomore Lexi Rogers and graduate student Avery Pinder all notched a hit against Penn.
JMU 5, ETSU 2
Junior Alissa Humphrey shut down ETSU from the circle in the afternoon. Humphrey racked up a season-high 11 strikeouts while pitching all seven innings for James Madison.
ETSU scored first with a solo shot in the first inning.
Graduate student Avery Pinder got the JMU offense started with an RBI single to score sophomore Kylee Gleason and graduate student Hallie Hall for the Dukes to take the lead.
Graduate student Hannah Shifflett and freshman KK Mathis recorded two hits each, while graduate Student Hallie Hall and sophomore Jasmine Hall each added one of their own.
The Dukes are back in action tomorrow at the Wolfpack Classic against Penn at 10 a.m. and NC State at 3 p.m.
