Dukes Secure 10th Straight Victory With Win at Temple

PHILADELPHIA – James Madison lacrosse has a double-digit winning streak for the second consecutive season, as the fifth-ranked Dukes survived a late comeback bid from Temple to win 10-8 at Howarth Field on Saturday.
JMU is 10-1 (2-0) after the victory while Temple has lost its third straight to fall to 5-5 (0-1).
Senior Tai Jankowski scored four goals for the fourth time this season, adding an assist for a five-point afternoon. Redshirt junior Isabella Peterson marked her eighth hat trick of the season and dished three assists for a game-high six points.
The Dukes' defense was disruptive, allowing just one goal in the game's first 39:08. Mairead Durkin stuffed the stat sheet with five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Kat Buchanan marked nine saves in net on a .529 save percentage.
Temple was led by Belle Mastropietro and Amelia Wright with two goals each. Defensively, junior Katie Shallow caused three turnovers and picked up five ground balls while goalkeeper Taylor Grollman made nine saves.

First Quarter – James Madison 3, Temple 1
Three different Dukes scored the first three goals of the game and held the Owls scoreless in the first 14:54 of the period. Buchanan made three saves in the quarter.
Second Quarter – James Madison 7, Temple 1
The Dukes grabbed all four goals in the quarter, with Jankowski getting the first two 24 seconds apart, followed by Savannah Derey and Peterson. The Dukes put nine shots on goal in total in the period.
Third Quarter – James Madison 10, Temple 3
Peterson finished off her own three-goal run to extend the lead to 9-1 before Temple got a pair of its own. Jankowski finished the scoring with six seconds left in the quarter. JMU collected six ground balls in the period.
Fourth Quarter – James Madison 10, Temple 8
Temple's comeback attempt began with three straight goals in 2:13 to cut the lead to 10-6 at the 11:09 mark. the Owls pulled within two with 4:33 left, but two late turnovers, the first of which was caused by Lizzy Pirisino, allowed JMU to hang onto the victory. This was the first quarter where JMU was held scoreless this season.
