Softball Completes Series Sweep Over Georgia Southern

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison softball completed its sweep of Georgia Southern, blanking the Eagles 9-0 in five innings on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
JMU improves to 20-7 with a 5-1 mark in Sun Belt Play. Meanwhile, Georgia Southern drops to 11-17 (1-5 SBC) and will trek to Coastal Carolina, on March 31 through April 2.
Freshman Kylah Berry earned the win for the Dukes, recording three strikeouts through five innings pitched.
Graduate student Hallie Hall went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, registering a run and RBI. Classmate Hannah Shifflett and freshman Kate Carrier both were 2-for-2 and notched an RBI, while Carrier recorded one stolen base.

How It Happened
- The Dukes opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first as freshman KK Mathis hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Shifflett. Moments later, Carrier singled to right field to score sophomore Jasmine Hall.
- Redshirt junior Reed Butler had an inside the park home run, driving in Carrier and Mathis to make it 5-0 after three innings.
- With the bases loaded, H. Hall hit a single to right center in the bottom of the fourth to bring graduate student Avery Pinder home, while J. Hall and Shifflett advanced to second and third, respectively. Shifflett scored soon after, capitalizing on a wild pitch.
- Mathis recorded her sole hit of the day with a single, with H. Hall and J. Hall coming home for a 9-0 lead later in the inning.
- Berry kept the Eagles off the board in the top of the fifth as the Dukes earned the series sweep.
Game Notes
- James Madison has won seven-straight contests dating back to March 18, the biggest streak of the season. Additionally, it's the most consecutive wins for the program since coming out on top 28 games in a row from March 28 through May 28, 2021.
- The win gives James Madison two consecutive sweeps, having gone 2-0 against Georgia Mason in a doubleheader on March 22.
- The shutout marks JMU's second in conference play. Earlier in the season, the Dukes captured a season victory over Coastal Carolina with a 1-0 win on March 19.
- Mathis' three RBIs made it her fifth time producing three or more in a game. The freshman recorded seven RBIs in the series against Georgia Southern.
- H. Hall's three hits were a season-high. Coming into the game, the graduate student had only produced multiple hits in a single game three times.
- James Madison leads the all-time series against Georgia Southern, 3-1.
