THE DUKES
- James Madison is set for the Sun Belt Championship game against No. 2 seed Texas State on Monday, March 6. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) and will air on ESPNU.
- Senior Kiki Jefferson scored 12 of the Dukes' 23 fourth-quarter points to hold off Old Dominion, 70-64, and advance to the Sun Belt Championship game on March 6. Jefferson finished with 22 points and seven rebounds while, junior Kseniia Kozlova dropped 20 points and grabbed six boards.
- The program will appear in a conference title game for the first time since the 2016-17 season when it fell to Elon in the CAA Championship game, 78-60, on March 11.
- Jefferson was named Sun Belt Player of the Year and First Team All-Sun Belt, while junior Peyton McDaniel was tabbed as Sixth Woman of the Year.
- Under Head Coach Sean O'Regan, two other players have been honored as the league's best player: Precious Hall (2017) and Kamiah Smalls (2020). Additionally, Jefferson's honor was the 11th time in program history a Duke has won conference POTY.
- The team ranks in the top 20 nationally in four categories: defensive rebounds per game (13th - 29.7), rebound per game (13th - 42.71), rebound margin (16th - +8.2), and field goal percentage defense (17th - 36.0).
- Jefferson is tied for second in the NCAA with Iowa's Caitlin Clark in free throw attempts (235) and fifth in free throws made (187) entering the SBC semifinal. Additionally, the Lancaster, Pa. native is tied for 31st in total points (561) and 39th in points per game (18.1). With 803 rebounds, the senior is 17 boards away from passing Michelle Jordan (1999-03) (819) who is eighth in program history. Additionally, Jefferson has also accumulated 1,799 career points, making her 49 points shy of passing Tarik Hislop (2009-13) (1,847) who is fifth in the JMU record book.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
- Texas State earned a share of the Sun Belt regular-season title along with JMU and Southern Miss with a conference mark of 13-5. They currently own an overall record of 23-8 and recently bounced Southern Miss in the semifinals of the league tournament, 85-57, on March 5.
- Da'Nasia Hood tied her season-high 30 points and career-high 16 rebounds against the Bobcats, while Taelour Pruitt and Jaeda Reed added season-highs in points with 17 and 16, respectively.
- Coming into the game against Southern Miss, Kennedy Taylor ranked 12th in the nation in assists (185) and 13th in assists per game (6.2). Taylor owns the all-time Sun Belt record for career assists and is the NCAA Division I active assists leader at 759.
- Since losing to the Dukes, the Bobcats have rattled off five consecutive victories.
SERIES HISTORY
- James Madison owns a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series against Texas State. The two institutions faced off for the first time just a few weeks ago, with the Dukes pulling off a 58-54 road victory on Feb. 16.
