RALEIGH, N.C. - James Madison men's golf picked up its third straight top-five finish on Tuesday afternoon, taking home fourth place at the Stitch Intercollegiate, hosted at the par-71, 7,209-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State.
The event, rescheduled from this past weekend due to inclement weather, transitioned to 36 holes played on Tuesday with the schedule adjustment. The Dukes carded rounds of 298 and 293, finishing five shots ahead of High Point and six ahead of Sun Belt foe Appalachian State on the eight-team leaderboard.
Senior
Nick Schlickenrieder led the way for JMU, opening his day with a 74 before firing a 2-under 69 in the afternoon to climb into a tie for 11th at +1, just one shot outside the top 10 among 61 competitors.
Freshmen Václav Tichý and
Owen Kose matched each other on the day, tying for 32nd. Tichý posted rounds of 72-77, while Kose carded 76-73. Sophomore
Daniel Cheng was just one shot behind the pair in a tie for 34th after shooting 76-74.
Junior
Alexandre D'Aurelle de Paladines closed out the JMU scoring with a first-round 79 before an injury kept him out of the day's second round.
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Kyle Kushnir tied for 41st, carding rounds of 74-78 (+10) on the day.
UP NEXT
The Dukes will be back in action in less than a week, traveling to the Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va. on April 17-18 for the 2023 Mountaineer Invitational, their final regular season tournament before the 2023 Sun Belt Championship the following week.
