Daniel Cheng took home runner-up honors on Tuesday evening, leading the James Madison men's golf team to its fourth consecutive top-five finish as the Dukes closed out play at the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by West Virginia at the par-72, 7,308-yard Pete Dye Golf Club.

Cheng closed his week in strong fashion, carding a final-round 70 (-2) to climb into a tie for second on the 80-player leaderboard, just two shots away from capturing his second win of the season. His final round was tied for the second-lowest final loop in the field, as he played his final two holes in -3 to wrap up his tournament at 218 (75-73-70).

As a team, the Dukes took home sole possession of fifth place among 13 teams, shooting 305-296-297 to finish just one shot behind fellow Sun Belt foe Coastal Carolina and one shot ahead of sixth-place VCU.

Václav Tichý continued his stellar campaign with his second top-five finish of the year, tying for fourth just two shots behind Cheng after a consistent 74-72-74 performance. Senior
Nick Schlickenrieder picked up his second straight top-15 finish, tying for 15th at 74-74-76.

Garrett Kuhla closed out the JMU scoring, with Kose (85-77-77) tying for 62nd and Kuhla (82-81-81) tying for 71st.

Alexandre D'Aurelle de Paladines tied for 41st, posting 79-77-77 on the week.

The Dukes have completed their 2022-23 regular season and will now prepare for their first-ever Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship, set to be held at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss. on April 24-27.

In Madison, teams will compete in three days of stroke play competition, with the top four schools advancing to team match play on April 27 to determine a team champion. GolfStat will provide
