NEW ORLEANS - After a record-setting performance at the Ironwood Invitational last week, junior
Amelia Williams of the James Madison women's golf team has been named the Sun Belt Women's Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Thursday afternoon.
Â
On April 4, Williams posted one of the strongest individual weeks in JMU history, opening her third and final round with three straight birdies on her way to a staggering 64 (-8) - the lowest single round in program history.
Â
All told, she racked up seven birdies and an eagle in that final loop, offsetting a single bogey to cap a stellar week with a two-shot victory and another new program record for 54-hole scoring at 207 (71-72-64, -9).
Â
Williams' win made her just the 10th player in program history with two individual titles in their JMU career, as she guided the Dukes to their third team title in four spring events and a new program mark for 54-hole team scoring at 283-287-278 (-16).
Â
The award marks the Dukes' second since joining the Sun Belt this season, after
Kendall Turner captured the honors on back on Oct. 28, is Williams' fourth career weekly award from a conference.
Â
The Dukes have completed their 2022-23 regular season and will now prepare for the first-ever Sun Belt Women's Golf Championship, set to be held at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. on April 16-18.

GolfStat will provide live results from the event, with live video coverage available on ESPN+ on all three days of competition.
