Dukes Sweep App State

HARRISONBURG Va. – James Madison softball completed a three-game sweep over App State that concluded on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park by winning both games of Saturday's doubleheader.

The Dukes advanced to 27-16 with a 12-9 mark in Sun Belt play, while App State dropped to 22-26, sitting at 3-16 in league competition.

Sophomore Lexi Rogers worked seven innings in the circle for JMU. She noted one strikeout, zero walks, and allowed six hits.

Graduate Hannah Shifflett had herself an impressive game at the plate. Shifflett went 2-2 with three RBIs and scored three runs. Sophomore Jasmine Hall also tallied two hits, two RBIs, and scored one run.

Graduate Hallie Hall, juniors Reed Butler and Hannah Hennessy, sophomore Abbie Campbell, and freshman KK Mathis each noted a hit during the first matchup.

How It Happened:
Freshman Kylah Berry tossed 5.2 innings of work for the Dukes. Berry tallied three strikeouts, two walks, and yielded five runs. Sophomore Rebecca Muh made her debut in relief and collected the win.

Jasmine Hall paved the way at the plate with two hits, two runs scored, and four RBIs. Junior Reed Butler also added two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI while graduate Avery Pinder noted two hits and an RBI.

How It Happened:
- Taylor Throp got things started for App State with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
- Shifflett smashed a two-run home run to left field and tied the game at two runs each.
- In the bottom of the second inning, JMU gained a one-run lead from J. Hall's home run to left field.
- Shifflett added her second home run of the game in the bottom of the third inning to increase the Dukes' lead to two runs.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, JMU extended its lead to 5-2 from Hennessy's single that plated Butler.
- JMU scored its final run from J. Hall's RBI single that pushed Shifflett across.

How It Happened:
- JMU scored first in the bottom of the first inning from Henzler's sacrifice fly that plated Mathis.Â
- Butler smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning to increase JMU's lead to two runs.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, JMU added two more runs from a single by Pinder.
- J. Hall made the score 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning from a solo shot to left field.
- In the top of the sixth, Addie Wray doubled to score App State's first run of the game. Three batters later, Kayt Houston then slugged a two-out grand slam to tie the game at five runs each.
- J. Hall walked the game off in the bottom of the seventh, with a three-run home run.
