CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Three members of the James Madison women's golf team - redshirt senior
Kate Owens, junior
Amelia Williams and sophomore
Tatum Walsh - have been named 2022-23 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon.
Â
JMU's three honorees are the second-most in program history, trailing only last season's four selections, and give the Dukes multiple All-American Scholars for the ninth year in a row. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, as the minimum cumulative GPA to earn the plaudits is 3.50.
Â
Owens capped her stellar JMU career as the program's only five-time All-American Scholar, having picked up the honors every season in Harrisonburg. She was named Second Team All-State in 2022-23, was named to the President's List with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall and her 75.01 career scoring average is currently the lowest in program history of any golfer who has completed her time at JMU.
Â
Williams joined Owens on the All-State Second Team while earning Dean's List honors in the fall and President's List honors in the spring. Her 74.33 scoring average this season is the eighth-best in JMU history and she set records for single-round and 54-hole scoring with her victory at the Ironwood Invitational.
Â
Walsh picked up her second All-American Scholar nod in as many chances after earning spots on the Dean's List in both the fall and spring semesters, while playing in 15 rounds for JMU.
Â
The Dukes will return all but two players for the 2023-24 campaign, which saw JMU finish the season ranked No. 82 in the country, its highest final ranking since 2010.
