State College, Pa. – Amelia Williams tied for third place, and James Madison women's golf used a strong final round to finish second at the Nittany Lion Invitational Sunday.
On a day when rain drove the course average to 304 (+16), JMU finished with a 290 (+2), nine strokes better than the next team. In the 10-team field, the Dukes climbed three spots Sunday with their best round of the tournament and finished five strokes behind Boston College, who took home the title.
In a field of 57 competitors, three Dukes placed in the top 25, led by the third-place finish from Williams. The senior carded rounds of 70-74-71, good for a three-round score of one-under 215. It is the best individual finish for Williams since she won the Ironwood Invitational in April.
Junior
Kayleigh Reinke (74-75-74) finished tied for 12
th, a new career-best. She previously finished tied for 15
th at the River Landing Classic on March 14.
Kendall Turner used a final-round 73 (+1) to climb to a t-15
th place finish. The senior managed a three-round score of 224 (75-76-73).
Tatum Walsh (75-81-72) and
Haley Quickel (77-73-78) finished just outside the top 25, with both tying for 26
th with 54-hole tallies of 228 (+12). Walsh surged up the leaderboard with a third-round 73 (+1), and Quickel finished her tournament with a 78 (+6).
Julia Zigrossi and
Taylor Miano competed as individuals at the Nittany Lion Invitational. Zigrossi, making her collegiate debut, finished tied for 30
th with a three-round score of 229 (77-75-77), while Miano finished tied for 50
th with a 54-hole aggregate of 241 (80-81-80).
