RICHMOND – Daniel Cheng captured the individual title and James Madison men's golf shared the team crown with Lipscomb at the VCU Shootout Tuesday afternoon, hosted at the Tuckahoe Creek Golf Course and its par-72, 6,927-yard layout.
Cheng finished first out of 84 competitors with a three-round score of 200 (-16), a new VCU Shootout record. The junior fired three sub-70 rounds (64-67-69), which included a career-low 64 (-8).

Carter Cheves said. "We're all very proud of the work he's put in to win his second collegiate title. Having a guy win is special."
While JMU and Lipscomb finished the 54 holes tied atop the leaderboard at 831 (-33), the two teams played for the trophy in a sudden-death playoff hole, where the Bisons won. However, the two teams both earned points for the win.
The Dukes posted team rounds of 272-277-278 to earn the tie for first, the best finish for JMU since the Georgia State Invitational on Oct. 3-4, 2022.
"The team was fantastic this week," Cheves added. "Coach (Will) Hurt and I couldn't be more proud of the work and effort of this group. Go Dukes!"
After opening his tournament with consecutive rounds of 70 (-2) and 68 (-4),
Nick Schlickenrieder finished with a 73 (+1), good for a 54-hole score of 211 (-5) and a tie for 19th.
Václav Tichý was the third Duke to finish inside the top 25, as the junior went under in all three of his rounds (70-70-71) and finished tied for 23rd.
Alexandre D'Aurelle de Paladines, making his first appearance of the fall season, finished in 28th place after he earned a new career-low three-round score of three-under 213 (68-75-70). The senior opened the tournament with a 68 (-4), also a new career-low.
Owen Kose rounded out the JMU contingent in Richmond, as the sophomore bounced back from a first-round 77 with a 71 (-1) and 72 (E) and finished with a 220 (+4), good for a tie for 59th.

The Dukes continue their fall schedule at the Virtues Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Miami (Ohio) at the Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The two-day tournament will take place Sept. 25-26.
