NASHPORT, Ohio – Fueled by a new career-low round from
Nick Schlickenrieder and another top-20 finish from
Daniel Cheng, the James Madison men's golf team finished tied for second at the Virtues Intercollegiate on Tuesday, hosted by the Miami University (OH) at the Virtues Golf Club and its par-72, 7,243-yard layout.

Overall, four Dukes went under in Tuesday's round, which helped JMU surge up four spots on the 17-team leaderboard. The Dukes carded a final team score of 853 (-11) after posting rounds of 279-292-282.

In a field of 88 competitors, Cheng (69-74-70) finished first among the Dukes with a tie for 17th. His three-round score of 213 (-3) earned the junior his second straight top 20 finish.

Václav Tichý (72-69-75) and
Alexandre D'Aurelle de Paladines (71-74-71) both tied for 27th with three-round scores of 216 (E). For the second straight week, D'Aurelle set a new career-best finish, as the senior placed 28th at the VCU Shootout on Sept. 19.

Schlickenrieder bounced back from a 75 and 76 on Monday with a new career-low 66 (-6), which led to a tie for 31st with a 54-hole score of 217 (+4).

After opening his tournament with a five-under 67,
Owen Kose finished tied for 38th with rounds of 75-77. The sophomore recorded a three-round aggregate of 219 (+3).

The Dukes continue their fall slate at the Carolina Cup in Spartanburg, S.C. on Oct. 8-10. The Tournament is hosted by South Carolina Upstate at the Carolina Country Club.
