BOONE, N.C. – An 89
th minute goal from App State to equalize James Madison snapped a program record 492:09 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal for the Dukes, as the two sides drew, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Soccer Stadium at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex in Sun Belt Conference women's soccer.
The Dukes moved to 5-2-4, 2-0-1 SBC and are unbeaten in their last five matches, the longest streak since an eight-match unbeaten streak last season. The Mountaineers moved to 4-3-2, 1-0-2 SBC.
Redshirt senior Suwaitbatu Mohammed netted the lone JMU goal, while junior
Shea Collins led the attack with a career-high four shots. Redshirt senior
Alexandra Blom spent the full 90 minutes in goal, making three saves.
How It Happened
- App State's Izzi Wood fired off a pair of shots in the sixth and eighth minutes, with the latter of the two being saved by Blom.
- The JMU attack countered, firing off the next six shots in the match that was capped off by Mohammed's goal in the 24th minute. Senior Alba Fernández Almagro sent a pass to classmate Sammie Sipes who then made one touch before finding Mohammed at the top of the six-yard box.
- Wood put another shot on frame in the 32nd minute, but Blom made another save to keep the Dukes in the lead at the break.
- Collins put three shots on goal in the 58th, 63rd and 67th minutes. Kerry Eagleston made a save in all three chances, finishing the match with four total.
- In the 73rd minute, the Dukes set the program record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal. The previous record was set last season at 475:31.
- The Mountaineers equalized in the 89th minute when Summer Bowman smashed a shot off the crossbar. The rebound went almost back to the top of the 18-yard box where Bowman headed it into an open net.

"We were good for 99% of that game and dictated so much of the play. But in the end, we have to be able to keep focus for the entire game. Hopefully this is a lesson that we can use in the future to see out the game when we are in that situation on the road and up a goal."
