HARRISONBURG, Va. – Five Dukes scored in double figures as James Madison women's basketball cruised past Loyola Maryland, 85-54, inside the Atlantic Union Bank Center on Thursday night.
JMU (2-0) dominated the paint, out-scoring the Greyhounds (0-1) 44-18, and took advantage of offensive rebounds with a 17-2 disparity in second chance points.

Kseniia Kozlova and
Peyton McDaniel all finished with 16 points to pace the JMU offense. Kozlova also pulled in 10 rebounds to secure her first double-double of the season and eighth of her career. Freshman
Angela Williams recorded 14 points, six rebounds and five steals in 13:50 of action off the bench. Barnes dished out a career-high five assists to go along with five rebounds, while
Jamia Hazell scored 11 points on 4-for-8 (.500) shooting from the field.
Kimmi Hicks led the Greyhounds with 14 points, followed by Kelly Ratigan (13) and Lexi Therien (10). Koi Sims grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to go along with nine points.
How It Happened
First Quarter – Loyola Maryland 16, JMU 15
- The Dukes struggled offensively early, not scoring until 6:18 when Hazell made a layup, followed by a three-pointer at 5:56, giving JMU a 5-4 lead.
- The Greyhounds hit three consecutive field goals in the final minutes of the quarter, taking a 16-15 lead into the second.
Second Quarter – JMU 38, Loyola Maryland 27
- JMU surged in the second quarter, starting on a 17-1 run, sparked by a Kozlova hook shot. The scoring frenzy coincided with Loyola Maryland going scoreless until the 4:29 mark.
- Barnes led the team, scoring 12 points by halftime and helped the Dukes finish strong heading into the half with a 38-27 lead.
Third Quarter – JMU 60, Loyola Maryland 37
- The Greyhounds struggled offensively, going scoreless for 6:39, while JMU capitalized with second-chance buckets from Kozlova and a 10-0 run to close the quarter, taking a 60-37 lead into the fourth.
- JMU produced 22 points in the frame from eight Dukes.
Fourth Quarter – JMU 85, Loyola Maryland 54
- A 7-0 JMU run over 2:04 came during a Loyola scoring drought lasting 2:46.
- The Dukes shot 8-of-16 (.500) from the field and out-rebounded the Greyhounds 13-5 to secure the 85-54 victory.
