HARRISONBURG, Va.-Â James Madison softball has released its full slate of games for the 2025 season Coach LaPorte announced Monday morning. The schedule includes 54 total contests, with 25 home games, 15 true-away matchups, and 14 being at neutral sites. The Dukes will also host two round robin tournaments in non-conference action.Â
"Our players and staff are thrilled about the 2025 schedule," said Coach LaPorte. "We're excited for the chance to travel to top-tier tournaments and compete against some of the best teams in the country. We know our non-conference matchups will be a true test, and we're confident they will prepare us for the challenging Sun Belt Conference play ahead."
JMU will face 13 opponents who appeared in 2024 NCAA Regional play, four of which won their respective regular-season conferences and three won conference tournaments.
The Dukes will begin their season in the Sunshine State for the second straight year as they travel to Orlando and take part in the Black and Gold Classic hosted at the UCF Softball Complex. JMU will take on CSU Bakersfield to commence its season (Feb. 7), followed by NC State (Feb.7-8), Georgia (Feb. 8) and conclude with UCF (Feb. 9).Â
JMU will then travel back to the Commonwealth to begin the home season by hosting the Lakeside Book Company Invitational. Buffalo, Delaware and Saint Francis will make the trip to Harrisonburg for the weekend tournament. Action for the Dukes starts with Buffalo (Feb. 14), continues with the Blue Hens (Feb. 14-15) and then Saint Francis (Feb. 15-16).
The Dukes will hit the road again for 11 consecutive games, as they first head to Huntsville, Ala. to take part in the inaugural Rocket City Softball Challenge. Twelve teams will see action in the week affair, split between Toyota Field and Hexagon Field at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. JMU will take on five of the eleven teams, starting with Auburn and Miami [OH] (Feb.21), then continuing with Jax State and ETSU (Feb. 22) The Dukes will then wrap up their time in Huntsville with Ole Miss (Feb. 23).Â
The Purple and Gold continue the road schedule at the Moyer Softball Complex in Salem, Va. at the Hokie Invite, hosted by Virginia Tech. Competition for JMU starts with Virginia Tech and Bucknell (Feb. 28), then Penn State and Villanova (March 1), and ending with another game against Virginia Tech (March 2).
A midweek game against Liberty will end the stretch for the Dukes, as they will travel to Lynchburg on Mar. 5 to face the Flames. JMU held a 2-2 record in midweek games in 2024, and holds an overall 15-10 record against Liberty, last meeting in 2022. Â
Harrisonburg will play host to the second and final home tournament of the season, when JMU returns to Veterans Memorial Park for the Lakeside Book Company Tournament. Games against Binghamton and Radford will begin the weekend for the Dukes (March 7), followed by two more matchups against Binghamton and Fordham (March 8) with another contest versus Radford to close it out (March 9). This marks back-to-back season appearances for Binghamton and Radford in the tournament.
Four more midweeks wrap up non-conference action for JMU as they participate in a home-and-home with Virginia (March 11 and April 22) with game one being played in Charlottesville. ACC member Cal will make a stop in Harrisonburg (March 26) and a Wednesday night with George Mason will finish it out (April 15).
The third season of Sun Belt Conference play will be underway for the Dukes as they head to Mobile, Ala. to face South Alabama (March 14-16). Despite prior matchups, this will be the first time JMU will take the trip to Mobile in its history.
Marshall (March 21-23) and App State (March 28-30) will travel to Veterans Memorial Park to start the home conference slate. During the 2024 campaign, The Dukes swept both series against the Thundering Herd and Mountaineers. Â
Back-to-back road series follow suit as JMU will play three in Atlanta against Georgia State (April 4-6) and then head to Lafayette, La. to take on the three-time reigning SBC regular season champions, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (April 11-13).Â
The home schedule will wrap up with Southern Miss (April 17-19) and Georgia Southern (May 1-3) and the Dukes will take their final road trip of the season on April 25-27 when they head to Conway, S.C. to play Coastal Carolina.Â
Troy University will play host to the 2025 Sun Belt Conference tournament in Troy, Ala. on May 7-10.Â
